Best Drum Practice Routine

Consistency beats marathon sessions. Thirty focused minutes a day will take you further than three unfocused hours on the weekend. Here is a balanced routine you can run daily, with a metronome doing the heavy lifting.

The 30-minute template

TimeFocusWhat to do
5 minWarm-upSingle strokes, double strokes, and paradiddles on the snare, slow and even.
10 minGrooveOne beat with the metronome; nudge the tempo up 5 BPM only when it is clean.
5 minFillsPlay three bars of groove, one bar of fill, repeat. Land back on beat 1.
8 minPlay-alongPick a song or groove and just keep time, all the way through.
2 minCool-downFree play, loose and musical, no metronome.

Rules that make practice stick

Run the routine in the app

Practice Mode has a built-in metronome, pattern library, and live timing feedback (Perfect / Good / Miss and a combo counter) so you can see your accuracy improve. Use Song Mode for the play-along block.
